Quirinus Versatile Airedale Terriers
About Us and Our Breeding Program.
We breed to the AKC standard and to preserve, not change, the Airedale Terrier.
The Airedale Terrier first and foremost was bred to be a farm dog. What is a farm dog? A farm dog is an all round dog and is a dog that gets the job done, what ever is needed. That is what makes the Airedale Terrier the wonderful terrier it has been for many people and our family - they are versatile much like the American Quarter Horse which is probably why we enjoy the American Quarter Horse so much as it is very much like our Airedale Terriers - reliable, steady and does what ever task is needed just because you asked them to do it. (Which is why us owners must use our common sense when asking!)
Obedience and training has been our family's forte for centuries - we love and enjoy training - whether it is our horses or our terrier, we enjoy training and spending the time with them. When you go through our website you will see our terriers doing obedience, rally-o, agility, conformation, carting, sledding, drafting, packing, water racing, lure coursing, terrier racing, retrieving, flushing, upland game hunting, tracking, coon hunting, treeing contests, herding, being farm dogs, and being our best friends. Why have we done so many different things - part is just to see if we can do it, part is because someone wants to do it, and why not, we are doing it with our best friends, our Airedale Terriers! Life is to be lived and to be enjoyed! They are a versatile terrier that loves to be with you and do what ever you request of them because you asked. First and foremost the Airedale Terrier is a terrier. They are not bred to be a sporting dog, working dog, herding dog, a non sporting dog - (Yes, as any dog can, they can be trained to do any of these tasks) the Airedale Terriers are bred to be a terrier and they have the trainablity, trust in you and intelligence to perform the task which you request - which is what makes them the great all round terrier we enjoy doing and trying different events and disciplines.
Airedale Terriers love their owners and their family to their dying day which is why it is important that you are sure you want a dog and an Airedale Terrier. Our puppies and adults are part of our everyday life and part of everything - we know their personalities and when we carefully place our puppies we are looking for loving homes that will make the 12-15 + year commitment as they deserved to be loved, cared for by the person who takes on the responsibility to be their owner - the Airedale Terrier loves their owner with all their heart and until the day that they die.
My great grandmothers (Flossie and Nini) were both excellent dog trainers and excelled at training all dogs.
Our grandparents (Corky and Lou) started with the Riverina and Sicawei line of Airedale Terriers under the guidance of Bill Laffer Senior of Reffal Airedale Terriers. My mother (Bobbi) was very involved with obedience and trainability along with producing a very sound and vigorous terrier and she carefully added in from Louline the Saredon genes, the Jodee genes, the Blackjack genes. In each litter my mother carefully selected out the quickest most compact puppy that showed the most ingenuity in problem solving. This created our current Quirinus Airedale Terriers which I have made the decision to continue breeding. I own a farm with dairy animals and my passion is my horses, and my constant companion and adviser is my beloved Quirinus Airedale Terrier. I enjoy everything about my Quirinus Airedale Terriers and am continuing the philosophy and the lifestyle with them. I was raised with the great great great great great grandmother of my current Quirinus Airedale Terrier and this picture is where I had taken my mother's "retired" obedience Airedale Terrier into a "fun class" at a match and had gotten my first ribbon. That was the beginning of my love of showing! I have excellent memories of the Quirinus Airedale Terriers that I was raised with and I have made the decision to continue our Quirinus Airedale Terriers. Our Quirinus Airedale Terriers are our family and we are their family.
Deidre Burns We are strictly hobby breeders - breeding for ourselves for replacements which means we occasionally have a litter of puppies. Temperament, trainablity and conformation are a must here. We are a working farm so they must get along with all of the farm animals or they do not stay in our breeding program. They also must get along with our cats (having pet Seal Point Siameses is another love I got from my grandfather Lou and my mother Bobbi!). When you click on a name it will go to that terrier's page - any name that is underlined you can click on and it will go to their own page about them. Our Boys are Quirinus Quintus Windwizard and Ash Grove Apollo (Imported from Italy) Our Girls are Quirinus Windtracker, Quirinus Quixotic Quest and Quirinus Windsorceress RN
